Miro Gavran's Awards

For the poem The Defence of Jerusalem, Miro Gavran received the Antun Branko Šimić Award in April 2023.

In the category of culture, the ‘Večernjakov pečat’ award for Person of the Year went to Miro Gavran. The award is given by Večernji list, the most widely distributed newspaper in Croatia, in May 2022.

In April 2019 Miro Gavran received the “Marul” award for the contemporary dramatic text at the Croatian festival of drama “Marulicevi dani” in Split. This award has been extended for the best original playwright.

In May 2019 Miro Gavran received the “Zvonimir Golob” award for the best unpublished love poem “Once we meet at the sky” written and dedicated to his wife Mladena Gavran for her this years’ birthday February 23rd.

Miro Gavran received the “Crikveničko sunce” award for this year’s most prominent literary achievements at the 18th traditional Adriatic Encounters in Crikvenica, Croatia in June 2019.

Miro Gavran received the Gold Medal for Services to the Republic of Austria from the President of the Republic of Austria in Austrian Cultural Forum, Zagreb on March 20th.

On February 22, 2017, he received the Didak Award for the promotion of Croatian culture, which was awarded to him by the Franciscan Province of Herzegovina from Mostar.

Miro Gavran received the prestigious European Dr. Alois Mock Europa-Preis award in Vienna. The Alois Mock award recognizes 14 years of individuals promoting European values and unity through various contributions.

November 27 the Croatian Cultural Club from Zagreb awarded Miro Gavran the Annual Award for promoting Croatian culture around the world.

Order of Duke Branimir was awarded to Mr. Miro Gavran by president of Republic of Croatia Kolinda Grabar – Kitarovic for outstanding service in promoting the international status and reputation of the Croatian state and its relations with other countries.

Miro Gavran received The Silver Medal of the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic, Mr. Miroslav Lajcak as a recognition of author’s long term engagement in the field of Slovak-Croatian theater and literary cooperation.

In 2016, Miro Gavran was a nominee for the prestigious Hans Christian Andersen Award in children's literature, by IBBY, with 28 authors and 29 illustrators globally.

Miro Gavran became member of Slovene Literature and Arts Academy . Academy’s residence is Varna – biggest Bulgarian city on Black Sea, one of the oldest European cities.

Miro Gavran received the Mato Lovrak award for a novel “A Summer to Remember” for the best children’s novel in Croatia in 2015. Award ceremony was held in Veliki Grdevac, birthplace of Mato Lovrak.

European Federation of Touristic Press based in Rome has awarded their international award F.E.S.T. 2015 to Croatian writer Miro Gavran for his exceptional contribution to cultural tourism.

Miro Gavran was elected associate member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts on the electoral meeting held in Zagreb on May 15th.

At the conference of the Russian Academy of Literature, held on April 22nd in Moscow, it was decided that Croatian writer Miro Gavran become their member.

The 5th CARNIVAL COMEDY Festival in Katovica, Poland concluded with 'HOTEL BABYLON' by Miro Gavran, winning the Audience's First Prize. THEATRE LUDOWY from Cracow, directed by Pawel Szumiec, with Polish actress Aldona Jankowska in all eleven roles.

In 2012, Miro Gavran received the Award of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts for the novel Kafka’s Friend.

Miro Gavran was awarded “Zlatna murva” – the first prize for the best play on festival “Glumiste pod murvom” in Skradin, for his play “Dr Freud’s Patient”.

Miro Gavran’s play ALL ABOUT MEN was awarded GRAND PRIX at the INTERNATIONAL COMEDY FESTIVAL TARNOW 2009 in Poland. This play was performed by the Theater LUDOWY from Cracow, directed by Tomasz Obara.

Miro Gavran was given the IVAN RAOS Prize for his monodrama THE CRAZIEST SHOW IN THE WORLD. The prize was awarded to him by the Raos Days Society at Medov Dolac, the birthplace of Ivan Raos.

Miro Gavran was awarded the Marin Drzic Prize, given by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, for his monodrama THE CRAZIEST SHOW IN THE WORLD.

The author won a SPECIAL PRIZE for novel “THE TEACHER OF MY DREAMS” at the Internatonal Festival of Litterature for Children and Young People in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Miro Gavran’s play Nora Today awarded the Ministry of Culture’s Marin Drzic Prize.

Play “Laughing Forbidden” received the “Marin Drzic” Award of the Croatian Ministry of Culture.

The award “European Circle” was awarded to Miro Gavran for the exceptional contribution of promoting European values in the area of culture. The award was given by the “European Movement”

Miro Gavran’s novel Forgotten Son was selected for the IBBY HONOUR LIST 2002. The award ceremony will be held in the Swiss city of Basle in September.

Miro Gavran’s comedy Drivers for All Times was declared the best comedy in the Zagreb City Comedy Theatre’s competition held in connection with the Theatre’s 50th anniversary.

“CENTRAL EUROPEAN TIME” INTERNATIONAL LITERARY AWARD FOR 1999 (Best Central European Writer of the Year). The ten-member adjudicators made their unanimous decision on the award in Budapest, Hungary

EVICTION, a comedy, won the prize for the most well-written comedy at the 19th Days of Laughter Theatre Festival in Zagreb
