The 16th GavranFest in Prague: Five Countries at a Festival Dedicated to Miro Gavran

The 16th GavranFest, an international theatre festival dedicated to Miro Gavran, Croatia’s most performed and most translated playwright, will take place from October 16 to 20, 2025, in Prague.

Founded in 2003 in the Slovak city of Trnava at the Ján Palárik Theatre, the festival will this year bring together theatres from five countries – the Czech Republic, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, and Ukraine – which will present their own interpretations of Gavran’s popular plays.

The 16th GavranFest will open on Thursday, October 16, 2025, with the play All About Women performed by Studio DVA Theatre from Prague (Czech Republic).

On Friday, October 17, 2025, at noon, a roundtable discussion titled Foreign Reception of Miro Gavran”will be held, while in the evening the audience will enjoy the play Forget Hollywood performed by the Croatian Theatre Travnik from Travnik (Bosnia and Herzegovina).

On Saturday, October 18, 2025, the program continues with the play Beer performed by Smejmo se from Kranj (Slovenia).

The Sunday program, October 19, 2025, features the comedy My Wife’s Husband performed by the Maria Zankovetska National Academic Drama Theatre from Lviv (Ukraine).

The festival will close on Monday, October 20, 2025, with the play The Happiness Agency performed by Teatar GAVRAN from Zagreb (Croatia).

The organizer and artistic selector of the 16th GavranFest is František Karoch, president of the Czech-Croatian Club Nota Bene in Prague.

All performances will include Czech subtitles, making the festival accessible to a wider audience.
