The GAVRAN Theatre Premieres the Monodrama School and Launches a Stage for Young Audiences

On February 5, the GAVRAN Theatre premiered the monodrama School at the Mala Scena Theatre. The play is based on the novel of the same title by Gloria Lujanović. The stage adaptation was written by Miro Gavran, the production was directed by Krešimir Dolenčić, and Rebecca Aleksić performs the leading role. Lighting and sound design were by Nikola Čeme.

School presents a powerful, emotionally demanding, and multilayered story of growing up marked by school bullying, institutional silence, and a sense of not belonging. Through the testimony of a young girl, the play confronts the issue of violence among young people and encourages audiences to reflect on their own responsibility – as individuals, parents, teachers, and witnesses.

Rather than offering simple answers or ready-made solutions, School reminds us that silence allows violence to persist and that change begins when someone finds the courage to speak out.

The premiere was warmly received by the audience. With this production, the GAVRAN Theatre also inaugurated its third stage – a stage dedicated to young audiences. After 24 years of producing performances for adults and eight years of operating its children's stage for the youngest audiences, the GAVRAN Theatre has now become a theatre for all generations.
