At the beginning of September, Miro Gavran published his new novel "Portrait of a Soul". The publisher is Mozaik knjiga from Zagreb. It was presented on September 18, 2023 at the Society of Croatian Writers.
In this novel with an unusual structure, we travel through Croatia over the past six decades, and describe the lives of seven women connected by the same person - the painter Benjamin. The novel was discussed by literary critic Marito Mihovil Letica, editor Hana Vunić and author Miro Gavran. Excerpts from the novel were read by actresses Nevena Vukes and Kristina Krepela.
This is Miro Gavran's eleventh novel, and it certainly stands out with its unusual structure. The narrative is developed in different literary and non-literary genres (story, letter, screenplay, e-mail correspondence, war report and memoir).
The author himself said about the novel:
I don't know if I wrote the best or the worst of my eleven novels. This is certainly the most unusual novel I've written, I've read more than a thousand novels in my life, but I've never read one like this.
